This was a horrific event. Being half Okinawan, i feel for the family of this young girl. I also have a half sister in Okinawan and several nieces that are close to this young woman’s age. I am also half American caucasian. I see the need for a base in Asia, but looking past the need for a base, I think about the crime rate of Okinawan-on-Okinawan versus US Military-on-Okinawan and wonder how the rates compare. Is Okinawan-on-Okinawan crime higher or lower than US on Okinawan crime? Does rape and murder occur between Okinawans occur? I ask these questions out of curiosity since I can’t find specific crime rates when I search for them.
Arthur, what is the need for a base in Asia? Who are you protecting and from who? Since 1972, date when US handed over the control of Okinawa to Japan, around 6.000 crimes were commited by US base-related people against Okinawans, including rapes, murders, burglaries and thefts. US shall withdrawal all the troops on Okinawa and close the bases urgently!
I lived in Okinawa for 4 years during the 1980s. I enjoyed being there; however, I agree with you. The US military should not be there.

This is so true! I am a Japanese American living in the U.S., and this infuriates me so much! The U.S. schools do NOT teach these war crimes! The U.S. have no business in Japan, and they are just trying to be the “world policeman” and trying to establish their dominance, and just taking advantage of the kindness of the japanese people!
